Big Energy Saving Week
Big Energy Saving Week runs from the 22nd January 2017 with the aim of helping people save money on the cost of energy. It is being delivered by a partnership between Citizens Advice and the Energy Saving Trust.
Many people stay on the same tariff with their energy company for years and are unaware that they could get a better deal with them or elsewhere. All suppliers should supply information on the cheapest available tariff and there are comparison sites which make it easy to see if you are getting a good deal. Simple changes such as not leaving appliances on standby, turning off lights and taking shorter showers can make a difference to the amount of energy you use. Making your home more energy efficient by installing double glazing, loft insulation or cavity walls insulation can also be very effective.
There is help available for people struggling with their fuel bills. Most energy companies give specialist support to vulnerable customers. There are also grants available such as cold weather payments and warm homes discount and it can be worth making sure you are getting all the benefits you are entitled to. You can find out more about all these measures by visiting www.bigenergysavingweek.org.uk, calling 03454 040506 or contacting your local Citizens Advice.
